BIO | IVAN HRKAS (BIH)Ivan Hrkas was born in Sarajevo in 1978. After completing primary school he moved to Israel where between 1992 and 1998 he attended the Selisberg High School in Jerusalem. He first enrolled in the prestigious Becalel Academy of Arts and Design, but in 1998 he returned to Sarajevo and there entered the local Academy of Fine Arts, course graphic design, where he graduated in 2004. In January 2005, he was accepted to the position of Assistant in the Photography course as mentored by Professor Mehmed A. Aksami. In March 2011 he successfully defended his master’s degree thesis from the field of photography and was named Assistant Professor for a group of subjects (Basics of Photography I and II, Photography I and II) later that year. For the past five years he has been exploring sociological photography, which was also the topic of his master’s degree thesis. He has exhibited in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Tunis, Slovenia, Serbia, UK, Israel and Mexico, and won awards in various festivals. He has also participated in organising the ‘Sarajevo Winter’ festival and various local and international projects from fields of culture and art. His graphic works have been published in local and foreign journals. He works and lives in Sarajevo.
